I’m not a PR guy, but I just got some great coverage for a client. (Thanks Vocus.)

There are some great marketing and PR tools out there that are showing the ability to save marketers significant time and money.

Recently I needed to help one of my clients, a Federal cloud computing infrastructure provider, get the word out about a piece of news. Since we already had the messaging strategy and content–and were on a tight budget–this was more of a targeted content distribution exercise than a heavy duty PR strategy initiative. So I used Vocus, an online PR tool. In a short period of time, I uploaded the release and selected the target media outlets.

Within a few days, the news had been picked up by about 15 news organizations, including some very prominent outlets such as Information Week, Washington Technology and the Washington Business Journal.

So if you already have a handle on your PR strategy and content, Vocus is a good way to get the word out quickly to a targeted media list.
